Candle Care: Tips to Make Your Candles Last Longer

As the owner of Mr Candle, I've seen firsthand how much joy and ambiance a well-cared-for candle can bring to a space. Whether you're looking to set the mood for a romantic evening, create a cozy atmosphere for a gathering with friends, or simply enjoy the soothing glow of a flickering flame, proper candle care is key to ensuring your candles last as long as possible.

In this blog post, I'll share some of my top tips for getting the most out of your candles, from the moment you light them to the very last drop of wax.

Trim the Wick

One of the most important things you can do to extend the life of your candle is to trim the wick before each use. As the candle burns, the wick can become uneven or grow too long, which can lead to an uneven, smoky flame and excessive wax pooling. Use a wick trimmer or small scissors to trim the wick to about 1/4 inch before lighting your candle. This will help ensure a clean, even burn.

Burn Candles for the Right Amount of Time

It's tempting to want to burn your candles for as long as possible, but doing so can actually shorten their lifespan. The ideal burn time for most candles is 2-4 hours. Burning a candle for too long can cause the wax to burn unevenly, leading to tunneling or the formation of a "mushroom" on the wick. Instead, try to burn your candles for a few hours at a time, and then extinguish them to allow the wax to re-solidify.

Protect Candles from Drafts

Drafts can also impact the burn of your candles, causing the flame to flicker and the wax to melt unevenly. Try to place your candles away from windows, fans, or other sources of air movement. If you do need to move a candle, be sure to extinguish it first and allow it to cool completely before relocating.

Store Candles Properly

When not in use, it's important to store your candles in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Heat and humidity can cause the wax to soften and the wick to become misshapen, which can affect the candle's performance. If possible, store your candles in their original packaging or in a sealed container to protect them from dust and other environmental factors.

By following these simple tips, you can help ensure that your candles from Mr Candle burn brightly and last longer, allowing you to enjoy their warm glow for many hours to come. Happy candle-burning!
